On July 8, 2021 the diesel locomotive as the freshly overhauled diesel locomotive was presented, road number 218 497, at the Cottbus facility. The DB Locomotive/Car Maintenance, Inc. (DB GmbH) (FZI) is listed as the owner and its future use is to be as a lease locomotive. The FZI had road number 218 497-6 given a two-part paint scheme, which symbolizes the history of the Cottbus facility from steam locomotive overhauling (black/red) to ICE maintenance (ICE white with red stripes). In the future, the DB-FZI will operate the latest and most environmentally friendly railroad maintenance for Europe in Cottbus. By 2026, a new ICE hall for maintenance and repair of the ICE 4 will be built at the current location, a hall for the conversion of diesel units to hybrid technology with electric propulsion as well as a technology center for hybrid research and modern training facilities will also be built.
