The German Federal Railroad (DB) type BT 10 flat cars for transporting containers resulted from the conversion of boxcars whose superstructure and car floor were removed. The laterally mounted rails for rolling the containers were mounted on the side sills of the frame. The tank containers were offloaded directly from the flat cars on to trucks in the "Haus zu Haus" service ("Doorstep-to-doorstep". The containers themselves were secured on the flat cars with quick lock devices.
