Product description

Model: All 4 axles powered by means of cardan shafts with 1 central gear box and 4 transfer gear boxes. Traction tires. The locomotive has built-in high-efficiency propulsion for DC or AC operation, or Märklin Delta/Digital operation. The headlights / marker lights can be controlled digitally. In DC and AC operation the brightness of these lights depends on the voltage present in the track. The locomotive has a built-in sound effects circuit (can only be used in digital operation) with motor sound effect and the choice of a high or low pitch locomotive horn sound effect. The locomotive has a figure of a locomotive engineer. Replacement couplers are included. Minimum radius for operation 1,020 mm /40-3/16". Length over the buffers 51.5 cm / 20-1/4".

Prototype information

Over 400 units of the class 218 were built between 1968 and 1981. This makes it the DB's largest class for diesel road engines. The class 218 has a maximum speed of 140 km/h / 87 mph and has been a regular sight for decades all over Germany pulling express trains, regional passenger trains, and freight trains. It can also be used in push/pull operation or in m.u. service.
